Orchard Image Gallery Documentation

Welcome to the Orchard Image Gallery Documentation. Here you can find how to install and use the Orchard Image Gallery module for Orchard CMS.

Getting Started

First you need to install the module. Take a look at http://www.orchardproject.net/docs/Installing-modules-and-themes-from-the-gallery.ashx to learn how to install the module from the Orchard modules gallery.

After installing the module, it’s necessary to enable the Orchard Image Gallery feature, on the Configuration\features menu, under the Media category. This will create the Image Gallery menu on Orchard.

Managing image galleries

Accessing the Image Gallery menu, you can create a new image gallery providing a unique name. After a image gallery is created it will be listed on the Manage Image Galleries page. You can access an image gallery clicking on its name.

On the Manage Image Gallery page you are able to edit its properties clicking on the Image Gallery Properties button. There you can:
  • Rename the image gallery
  • Change the images thumbnail size
  • Remove the image gallery
  • Choose whether to keep the images aspect ratio or not.

Also, you can add images to the image gallery clicking on the Add images button. You can add multiple images before submitting them.
After adding images, you can click on an image name and edit its Title and Description.

On the images list, you can drag and drop them to adjust the order of the images presented on the image gallery.

Displaying image galleries

The image gallery can be used as a Content Part or a Widget. To define a Content Part you first need to create a Content Type and add the Image Gallery as one of its parts. Take a look at http://www.orchardproject.net/docs/Creating-custom-content-types.ashx for more details. Then you can create a Content Item from your custom type. There you select the image gallery to display and the presentation plugin to use, like PrettyPhoto, Lightbox or SlideViewerPro.

For using the Widget, you just need to access the Widgets menu and add an ImageGalleryWidget. Refer to http://www.orchardproject.net/docs/Managing-widgets.ashx for detailed instructions.

When displaying the Content Item or Widget, i.e. not in the admin view, the images from the selected image gallery should be displaying using the presentation plugin.

Don't you have a demo site for the package?

Hi,

I have added Image Gallery as a Content Part to my list. I need to style it differently and can't see any alternate suggestions for it. How can I style to the list differently without changing the whole code for it?

I have found that the order adjustment works on IE9, not IE8 or FF. I am wondering what this feature rquires exactly from a browser.

Thank you for the great module! It works very well. I love it.

I cannot figure out how to save the order of images after changing it by drag & drop. It would be great if the document can provide some instructions on how to do this.

Hello - Thanks for providing this, it is a good start to what can become a great module!

It would be great if we could set a secondary thumbnail size for display when an image is first clicked. For example, when I upload a very large (e.g. 12 megapixel+) image, clicking the thumbnail immediately loads the huge image. If we could set a secondary thumbnail max height/width size (e.g 600/600 - and maintaining aspect ratio) and have that secondary thumbnail display upon click but still somehow provide access to the original image it would be nice!

Thanks again!

Gabriel, thank you for contributing your image gallery module to the orchard community.

I tried it out and it worked well, there is only one thing: It seems the thumbnails don´t keep the aspect ratio of the original picutures which have different aspect ratios (the full sized pictures do). Maybe I did something wrong?

Hey Ben! Thanks for your feedback.
The Author issue is a problem with Media module that Image Gallery depends on. I'll try to contribute to Orchard to get this fixed.
About the plugin issue, I already fixed that. Thank you very much!

Gabriel.

Hi,

First of all, thank you for your efforts in producing this module for Orchard.

I downloaded and tried out the Image Gallery. It installed fine, and I was able to create an album and add a photograph to it. I did notice that there is an "Author" field and I don't see a way of populating it.

I was also able to create a page with an album widget on it. Unfortunately, neither of the presentation plugins worked; the thumbnails displayed just fine but clicking on one of them simply enlarged the picture to full size.

I hope that you will be able to resolve this issues, as it looks like a very promising module!

Ben
